These were it.
The it boot of my middle school years. I think every girl in my grade had a pair of the Nike hiking boots ... except for me. My shoes came from Kmart or Payless - and nowhere else. It didn't keep me from lusting after them, though.
Even 20 years later.
I couldn't help but think of those boots, and how useful they would be, on my walk this morning. The weekend's snow was turned a slushy river overnight by rain and mild temperatures. The retired Mizunos I wear for recreational use just aren't cut out for such weather but those boots ... OH YEAH.
Monday is typically a rest day but I figured a jaunt in the slush would do us all some good. And by all I mean Miles and Denali. Miles was up at 4:45 a.m. and a walk would guarantee him a much needed nap, even if only a short one. The ever jealous Denali has been acting out lately but his behavior is usually better when he has some exercise.
So I got everyone together - Denali leashed up and Miles bundled - and we went for a casual 2.7-mile walk in a neighboring addition. And by casual, I mean I took the travel system stroller so I could bring along a cup of coffee.
So good.
Also good - Miles stayed asleep long enough for me to not only make breakfast but eat it with both hands free.
I had some leftover shrimp and avocado-tomato salsa from last night's Shrimp Quesadillas, and I realized that I could make a version of one of my favorite make-it-over restaurant meals. A California omelet for unseasonably warm temperatures - perfection!
How are you starting off the week?
Started of with an egg white omelet with red and yellow peppers and spinach, coffee with a splash of creamer. Yummy. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI love the skinny taste shrimp quesadilla!
ReplyDeletethe shrimp quesadilla's sound great!
ReplyDeleteUmm, I totally had those Nike hiking boots in high school!!! Yummy shrimp quesadillas. I started off the week with a 2 mile run which was quite miserable and maybe a nap (which will be awesome) :) happy monday!
ReplyDeleteI started this week off with Yogurt and coffee then a 4.5mile speed work on the treadmill then did some bi's, tri's and abs!! Now THATS what I'm talking about!!
ReplyDeleteStarted with my protein shake of choice, 2 scoops dutch chocolate protein powder, 2 cups almond milk, and a handful of strawberries. All end up in my magic bullet blender to be beaten to oblivion and devoured :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I so wanted those shoes as well! I remember I had the prowins (Payless) version of an earlier model - kids were NONE to kind about them.
ReplyDeleteOh well, it makes you stronger - right?
Ha! I so remember those boots! I didn't have a pair either because my feet grew too fast, and my dad said I would grow out of them in a month!
ReplyDeletehe! i thought it would be a splendid idea to walk to the coffee shop saturday morning with the tot. it was snow/raining diagonally, and although the baby was bundled up, by the time we got home i could actually wring out her blanket and cozy-suit. poor thing. incidentally, i found every crack in the sidewalk made hot coffee spurt all over myself and the stroller. ahhh....good times.
