On ice

Move that body: 45-minute walking incline workout

I blame the hot dogs. Mark blames the burgers. And Denali calls it karmic retribution for his 32 hours in the kennel.

But whatever the reason neither Mark nor I felt that great this morning. In fact, we felt plain crappy. I tried to muster the motivation to walk, only to turn around a quarter of the way in, and found myself calling in to work a short while later.

Thankfully, some fluids, carbs and getting my ass kicked at Markio Kart did me enough good that I felt up to a little treadmill workout. Either that, or I was looking for a reason to listen to my current audiobook, “The Hunger Games.” I’m a bit late on this one as I usually am with most books but I’m very into it.

I hate to admit this but part of the reason I decided to “read” “The Hunger Games” is because it’s going to be a movie.

It has all the elements that made me love “Brave New World” in high school with the ease of being a young adult book. And even though I know the main character has to live – hello, it’s a trilogy – I’m genuinely excited to see how it turns out (as opposed to so many books where I only finish them because I genuinely want them to end).

Has anyone read the entire series? Thoughts?

  2. Ha, these are also on my list. I'm barely reading The Help, so I'm way behind.

I actually like to see the film adaptations of novels, so no shameful look here ;)

  4. The Hunger Games series is awesome. Wasn't a huge fan of book 3 and the way it ended though. Audio books are great to workout to. You get in a zone and totally forget about time.
    Hope you feel better!

  6. I Read the Series. First book is the best...they get progressively worse, but still worth the read. When you're done, read Battle Royale. it's the Japanese book the Hunger Games books are based one. It is wildly more terrifying but so so good.

  7. I have read the first two and can't wait to read the third book. I have been nervous to read the third because I don't want to be disappointed in it because I have heard too many people say they don't like it. I can't wait to see the movie though!

  8. I hope you are feeling better! I just bought the first book in the series on my Kindle and haven't read it yet. I also decided to read it because it's going to be a movie and I saw it on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

  9. I really liked the books. The ending wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but it was realistic and well written, so I was okay with it. I think you'll like them!

  10. I'm glad you're feeling better! I haven't read the series yet, but my friends have really enjoyed them. I think I'll get them on CD the next time we head to Nebraska. Makes the drive go so much faster!
