Three Things Thursday

Workout: 1.5-mile walk with Denali and (planned) All-Levels Yoga class

1. Yesterday was an unplanned rest day. My body and me, you see, were not in agreement, and I spent most of the day on the couch. In fact, I didn't get out of my PJs until 4 p.m. and that was only in anticipation of Mark's return from work.

2. Seeing as I barely had the energy to put forth minimal effort into hygiene, I definitely wasn't in the mood to cook. Especially what I had on tap for the evening - pollock fillets with couscous and veggies. I'm not sure what it is about this pollock but I have no desire to cook it - much less eat it. It's been on the weekly menu at least twice and each time, I manage to get myself out of preparing it.

3. Mark, kind as he is, agreed to take me to the family restaurant for soup and a burger. I was chowing along as a pregnant woman should when he said something. Something that sort of struck a nerve.

"You never would have eaten that three months ago," he said, gesturing toward my delicious sandwich.

And he's right. I wouldn't have. The combo of not-lean beef, a non-wheat bun and not-reduced fat dressing would have sent me looking for grilled chicken. But last night, it's what sounded good and I am trying to eat more beef to keep my iron up. It made me wonder, though, whether I'm relaxing my habits too much because I'm pregnant. I certainly don't want to lose all the habits I've worked so hard to establish because the sea monkey "wants" a burger.

By the way, the sea monkey wanting a burger just further convinced Mark that this little one will be a boy. I would have hit him had we not decided on a boy name last night.

How do you balance healthy eating and life (not necessarily pregnancy)?

  1. OMG. I would have smacked my hubby upside the head for that!

You are more understanding than me!

I think it's understandable that you are having cravings and such. I think the bigger issue would be to ask yourself if you are treating yourself to these meals more than you should.

They say what 80% healthy and 20% eat what you want. So as long as you are not eating like that daily or whatever, I think you are fine.

I often splurge if I eat out -- just because we don't that much. Now if I ate out daily and splurged daily, that would be an issue.

  2. I feel you! My eating has changed a lot, too. I NEVER ate bread/pasta/cookies...anything like that before being preggo - but now...look out carbs!

I craved beef all during my 5th month - which also made me think I was having a boy. But...it's a girl. A girl who demands beef. :-)

  5. Oh, if only I knew the answer to that question? I wouldn't have a stack of jeans I can't wear yet, mocking me from my closet every morning!

For now, I would just say take it one day at a time and really try to listen to your body. Hormones are raging like crazy, so your yoga sessions might really help clear out your mind:)

And the best part, keep thinking about that little munchkin and what his/her needs are at this moment. That really keeps me somewhat inline, knowing that someone else is dependent on how I fuel my body.
