Three Things Thursday: Move edition

Move that body: 2-mile walk with Denali

This post is all her fault. She asked whether I'd have a "We'll miss you crappy neighbors" post, and I thought it was a fabulous idea. Except I'm making it three things I won't miss about this dang apartment.

1. My crappy neighbors. The first real crappy neighbor was the single mom who yelled at her 3-year-old all the time, calling her a "b" and telling her that she wished she was dead. Then there was the landlord's son, who lived in the basement and beat his dog. He was replaced by the old man who has emphysema (or something like it) and hacks in the wee hours of the morning. Then, upstairs we have the single mom who has 1 a.m. bedroom sessions and partial custody of the loudest three kids and two dogs.

2. Windows that don't open. We live in an "old house," as the landlord likes to say. The windows are not new and operate on a pulley system. Some of the pulleys are broke and you need a book to prop the window open. Other windows have been painted or caulked shut. Seriously, not one window in our bedroom can allow the cool spring air to pass through it.

3. The fire station across the street. Do I even need to explain? The sirens are only compounded by the fact that there's a hospital less than a mile away. Woo, red flashing lights ... not.

What I will miss?

The grocery store that's literally across the street.
Multiple access points to the trail system.
Free cable.

  1. I can TOTALLY relate to the windows. We live in West Central in a house that's over 100 years old. None of the windows stay open by themselves, some of them don't open at all... and one of them has 3 giant cracks that run through the entire thing.

Although, the window in our attic permanently open (it doesn't have glass), so I guess that makes up for it (joking, of course... it makes for a COLD winter!)

    Good luck with the move!

  5. The last house I lived in had the pulley system windows. The concept was cool, and the old windows were beautiful. However, I do not miss the drafty winters or the book-prop technique. :)

Here's to your new place. So many amazing adventures await you Kimberly. I'm excited for you.

  6. Wow - I feel loved . . . HA!!! So, those do seem like the worst possible neighbors. Short of some pimps and pushers, yeah, I'd say you've had the short end of the straw. Here's to a SMOOTH closing and being a new homeowner in a wonderful neighborhood where you can open the windows, have middle of the night romps without the world knowing, and being able to sleep sans sirens. Good luck and congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I can speak for the whole blogosphere and say that we're happy for you, but the every now and then post about the awesome 'hood will surely be missed :) SMILE!!!
