Sign of Goodwill

Pre-workout eats: Whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and sliced bananas

Workout: 40 minutes of yoga (“Body by Bethany” on OnDemand)

goodwill

That’s six bags there. Six bags of sweaters, dresses, pants and coats that are all size 10 or bigger, size medium and larger. Six bags of clothes all too big for this body.

And this weekend, those will all be gone. The Goodwill (or Salvation Army) will find the items in their bins, along with the ugliest throw pillows ever and a few handbags that can’t seem to make it in the rotation.

It’s a good thing -- good because I’m comfortable wearing the sizes that I do and not needing the bigger items. And, yet, I’m a bit sad. Sad because clothes do hold memories in their threads – dresses for special dates, outfits to mark milestones (weight loss or otherwise).

Sayonara, houndstooth coat found on ridiculous clearance at JC Penney.

Goodbye, zebra print Banana Republic dress that I wore for an oceanfront dinner with Mark in Malibu.

Adios, my first pair of size 10 jeans, purchased for last year’s teacher Christmas party.

I hope you find good homes.

  1. Did you try Clothes Mentor? You could probably get some cash for your name brand stuff.

Are you keeping just one outfit... ala. Subway Jared?

  2. Isn't that the greatest feeling ever?!?! And to donate the clothes and know that someone who really needs them is going to get them and make their own memories! Go you!!!!

  3. @Holly - Those items are the Clothes Mentor rejects. Ha! I haven't saved anything, and those clothes are mostly the in between items.

  4. I love going through the closet and getting bags ready to go to Goodwill...it makes you feel so much better. Of course, I would love if I was getting rid of clothes because they were too big and not just because I haven't worn them in ages!!
