Breaking up is hard to do

I have a confession to make.

I haven’t counted a single Weight Watchers PointsPlus in more than a month and it’s been at least twice that long since I’ve weighed in.

ww

And you know what? I’ve lost 5 pounds.

I had been struggling with the PointsPlus program since I returned to Weight Watchers after having Miles. Some of my go-to foods on the WW program were worth more and others were worth fewer. I didn’t know how to plan meals to fit in the program, and I struggled with eating to keep up milk supply. It just seemed that no matter what I did, no matter how closely I thought I was following the plan, the scale would not budge. I knew if I was going to meet my post-baby weight-loss goals that I was going to have to make a commitment to attend meetings or switch things up.

It was a tough decision. I felt a loyalty to the program as it provided me with the tools, support and inspiration I needed to be successful. However, I found it difficult to fit in the meetings near my house now that I’m back to work and I lacked the motivation to scout out times on the weekends. It became clearer and clearer that I couldn’t continue doing something that so obviously wasn’t working for me.

I began tracking my food choices and exercise on MyFitnessPal.com, a site I used while I was pregnant to make sure I wasn’t giving in to the “eating for two” line. The site “gives” me 1,250 calories a day, and I am able to make an adjustment to account for breast feeding bringing me to 1,750 calories. Any exercise I complete gives me more calories for my eating pleasure.

I set up my account to lose 1 pound a week and, with the exception of Thanksgiving week, I have done just that. My post-partum weight loss stands at 14.4, bringing me 2.2 pounds below my WW goal and just 5.8 pounds from my happy weight.

I have no timetable to lose those 5.8 pounds – I merely want to see the scale to go in the right direction and feel in control of the process.

Have you ever made a drastic change in an effort to lose weight?

  1. GREAT JOB!!!! I'm sure it was a hard decision to go it on your own, but know it's always there if you feel like you need to return to the support and accountability some day! Way to go with beating the WW goal and being only 5.8 pounds from your happy weight - that's awesome and inspiring!!!

I joined a crazy Boot Camp class with my crazy friend to help jump start my 2012 weight loss goals. So far it's been the perfect thing! I'm eating less and making healthier choices as well. I can't wait to return to work tomorrow to see how much I've lost (being sick and gimpy helps you know :) ha!

Keep up the amazing work - I'm in awe of you everyday! You're awesome and I'm so glad to have you as a friend and role model in my life!

    High 5 sista'!

  2. I am struggling with the same decision right now. WW helped me to lose over 60 pounds for me a year and a half ago, but it's just not working for me anymore. I totally understand how you're feeling!

  3. that is so awesome! I think that it's all about finding that balance. You're being smart about it and realize that what worked in the past may not work for you now. Keep up the great work :)

  4. I DO NOT LIKE POINTS PLUS!!! Sorry, I didn't mean to yell, but the fact is that a lot of people who are overweight need more structure when trying to lose and the points plus system has way too much freedom for my liking. The one reason I go back to Weight Watchers time and time again is for the accountability. I have the blog, but nothing is like weighing in front of someone and having them record your progress. I quit WW about 2 months ago since I got my bodybugg, but I haven't lost much....yet! The holidays seem to be a hard time for me and my goal is to just maintain at this point. It sounds like you are doing amazing on your own, so if its working keep it up!

  5. GO YOU!!!! I have never done WW but my mother did it almost 15 years ago to loss like 50lbs. She lost it and has maintained the weight loss with the techniques that WW taught her. I commend you for doing it on your own :)
